2nd McDonalds - Beach Breakfast

Well it seems after managing 3 years before stepping foot in a McDonalds with big boy, we have suddenly been twice in a month. Now I am not getting on my high horse about fast food and little ones, I promise, each to their own I say, we all know the guidelines and the healthy eating advice. I am 100% sure that treats now and again like a trip to McDonalds, are not the reason the UK has a child obesity problem.

Our first trip was in desperation in America last month, having got terribly lost on the interstate and ending up pulling over at the first place we saw that had children's facilities and toilets!

On Saturday we had breakfast on the beach. A McDonalds breakfast and blooming lovely it was! The small boy had plain pancakes, big boy was allowed some syrup, milk and orange juice and we had hash browns and a sausage and bacon muffin.

I don't know why but a part of me thought, oh no, I hope no one sees me, as we were in the queue for the drive through. Why?! Would I have felt the same if we had picked up muffins and pastries from Costa on route?

We headed off to Uphill beach, where we could take the dogs off their leads, and had a glorious couple of hours.

The boys didn't stop the whole time. Big boy ran after another little one's kite, threw balls for the dogs and small boy stood standing for a few seconds, for the first time!

I am sure we worked off quite a few of the calories we had consumed (the syrup sauce was delicious) and I didn't feel at all guilty.

Mind you, it does make me a little bit sad when I see hoards of families having Sunday lunch in one of the fast food chains. Not that I conjure up a roast very often, but it's the families that eat there week after week that may be the reason some of this countries children are classed as clinically obese at school.

I know my husband supports my ideal that once in a while as a treat is perfectly acceptable.

Three in a wigwam and the little one said ...

Yesterday was a day of impromptu little treats. Small boy had missed his 2 hour sleep in the morning, due to all of us going to the preschool leavers assembly. I was tearful and big boy doesn't leave until next year!

I just about managed to keep small boy awake in the car for the 4 minute journey home, got some lunch into him before he was moaning to be put to bed.

My husband was out doing some market research (he works from home for a web agency) and phoned to say he would pick us both up a sandwich as a treat.

Big boy thought this was great and suggested we have a picnic in the wigwam!

The time we have just the three of us is so rare now and we realised, that we have all missed it. Big boy was an angel. We had a laugh, messed about and whilst the rest of the country were heading outdoors to finally feel a few rays of sunshine on their faces, we were huddled in a hot tent!
