Lucy has always thought that shooting straight onto white is hard to get absolutely right. What you need is a slight texture.
Imagine blowing out a candle. It's your birthday and you’re making a wish with your eyes closed in front of your beautiful cake. The sound of "Happy Birthday to you" is ringing in your ears. I feel like I can’t do this backdrop justice! I need you to show me how you would style it, how you would show it off, how you would layer it with books or flowers or plates full of beautiful food. It’s soft but striking. The perfect caramel in between hue not too yellow, not too honey.
I shot this at the stone masons in Frome Somerset, when I was buying our kitchen worktops. Italian marble with swathes of texture like Italian gelato.

Lucy found this marble shop front on a much loved if forgotten high street. A fleeting moment walking past a little delicatessen. Subtle cracks and odd spots to show true signs of wear through the white marble that blend together to create a distinctive and genuine almost grey feel.
One to love, to treat delicately and to keep it for years. Like real stone, heavy dyes like beetroot and turmeric will penetrate its whiter printed surface.
