Lucy lovingly developed this range of photo backdrops in the UK after finding it challenging to find a similar product online and running out of room for any more tables or pieces of dented cardboard!

Designed for the professional and aspiring photographer & videographer these photo backdrops are ideal for product and food photographers, bloggers, Instagrammers, agencies creating digital and print content, makers, crafters and more. Style and shoot, roll and store.

The backdrops are printed in the South West of England, packed by Lucy and her sister Natalie, and delivered by your postman.

I went for a launch and learn approach to a project that has been a dream for a long time. I want to challenge the perception of vinyl type material, that I too have been disappointed with in the past, with a carefully curated collection of designs with depth and texture, in a digital print. For the professional photographer in a studio and on location, as well as others who take photos in their own home. I wanted to produce a range that can be as versatile as possible, big enough for flat lay compositions and clamped or hung when used vertically. For all types of digital and print content. My collections are made from my photographs and edits and each has a story. I am thrilled to have added collaborations with Kim Klassen, the de Winton Paper co and Kym Grimshaw. Just wait until you see what is next!

What material do you use & how do I look after them?

The standard size backdrops measures 2ft by 3ft (approx 60cm by 91cm) and are printed in the South West of England. They are all large scale format prints of an original photograph taken by Lucy. There will be a variation in the backdrop vs the original image due to the nature of the printing process but should not be noticeable in your photographs. Please take a look at the close up product images of the backdrop in use for more detail. Double size 3ft by 4.5ft backdrops are available as custom orders at £59.95. For details of the XL prints please email mama@capturebylucy.com and Lucy can create a custom listing for you.

Printed on smooth, durable material they are wipeable and roll for easy storage in a postal cardboard tube. Surfaces you can move into the best light in your home, studio or office and that you won't trip over or dent. Lucy uses two types of PET (Polyethylene terephthalate 500gsm block out) material with a white back. This is wipe clean, anti curl lay flat material and designed for digital printing. The material has a smooth feel but is made up of layers of woven material and will react to cold temperature. To encourage your backdrop to lie flat if stored in a cold room, turn it over carefully for a few minutes and you may want to use a small piece of tape in each corner to secure to your table top if using as a surface.

They are real floorboards, real surfaces, textures, edited original images and feature imperfections such as knots in the wood grain and marks from wear and tear to help add interest, depth and atmosphere to your photographs.

The smooth PET is higher quality than traditional banner vinyl material commonly used for photo backdrops. All smooth products will reflect some light but that's a good thing, you want to be able to create natural shadows to ensure your backdrop looks true to life. However, I have sourced a material that uses the woven structure to diffuse light and reduce glare as much as possible, printing on the reverse of the super smooth side. I photograph them in natural light for the imagery on the website, but they are used around the world by photographers who shoot in an artificial light. I would recommend sourcing a 1:1 print backdrop if you are concentrating on macro photography and want a true to scale backdrop with a completely smooth effect in close up imagery.

Treat them nicely, don't use them as a chopping board, don't soak them, wipe them gently. Be sensible - don't put a hot pan or mug directly on them. They are a printed product so while durable when cared for, they will mark with heavy colouring such as cherry, curry powder, turmeric, pomegranate or beetroot juice for example. Roll them back up after use and store them out of direct sunlight when flat. Try not to crease your backdrop. In the event of an accidental crease hang or lay them in a warm room to encourage the crease drop out.

Lucy retains full copyright of all the images and copy used in the backdrop store. Enjoy using the backdrops in your social media, blog, product and shop photography.

The backdrops can be used to create photographic logos, header images and for images for feature/article commissions in print and online. You are not permitted to scan or reproduce the backdrops to create your own backdrop product.

Love them like Lucy does and look after them to keep them as your photographic secret weapon for years to come!

I’ve been shooting on them today and they’re great! Love the quality and how thick and durable they feel. I love the white floorboards especially. The marble has been very useful today. Even Luke came and asked where I shoot it to get white floorboards! He was impressed.

Just to let you know that we’ve received your backdrops and our team really love them! We’ve shot our first book on the wonderful backdrop and it looks stunning! We’ve recommended you to other departments too as these are just great.

Discovering Lucy’s backdrops has been such a blessing! I’ve purchased a number of her beautiful designs and it has really elevated my food photography & styling, adding beautiful texture and depth to any photoshoot, both for myself and my clients.

The backdrops are beautiful, sturdy and so easy to clean and store, plus they come in a very handy packaging, easy to transfer for shoots abroad. As an added bonus, Lucy herself provides one of the best customer services ever- she personally oversees everything and on a couple occasions I needed something posted asap she more than delivered, and when there was an issue with the post abroad, she was immensely helpful.

I would wholeheartedly recommend her backdrops- they really are one of the best investments you can make, kinda like the gift that keeps on giving! Thanks a million, Lucy!

I am seriously so impressed. I’d seen them on a few people’s IG, but they have a different style of photography than I do, so I wasn’t sure how it would transfer. I am all about texture and shadows and directional light, even many “real” backgrounds can look a bit flat. This is just perfect for what I was missing in my arsenal and is safely stowed and not a trip hazard. You should be so proud.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am so pleased I found your website and decided to order several of your beautiful backdrops! I was over the moon with them.
They worked so well for my most recent photoshoot at the weekend I now plan to redo some more photos on my website with these funky new coloured backgrounds. I am sure I will be back for more soon.
