A knight, a pair of board shorts and the hunt for Kevin

So you may have thought by the title of this post that I am losing it! Not at all, although I am so deliriously tired, after big boy waking up excited that it was his birthday, at 5.49am, that it will take a moment to explain!

We went for a "Castle picnic" today, all by chance as it turned out, as we pitched up at Banwell Castle, which is in fact a private residence, and it was only down to the kind hearted Manager, that my big boy got his birthday wish.

We had the most magical time and said more times than I could count, oh my goodness, this is just amazing, how lucky are we?!

There were 2 splendid peacocks in the grounds that kept calling loudly to one and other. If you have never heard a peacocks call but have watched the Pixar film UP, I can tell you it sounds exactly like the bird Kevin in the film!

As soon as big boy heard it he said "oh wow! Kevin!"

One was particularly vocal, so my husband took our birthday knight off on a hunt to find Kevin.

I hadn't really realised what my husband had on today. A bright pink Abercrombie t-shirt (nothing wrong with that, I love brights) and a pair of neon print board shorts (slightly weird as we weren't going swimming). Combined with the new yellow flip flops, it's what some would call brave!

It was an unusual situation. We stuck out like sore thumbs! I couldn't tell you what the other people who had stopped in at the Castle must have thought of us!

But really who cares. Although I did have to comment when my husband wore the same outfit for our early dinner at the local Indian!

My entry for Fat Mum Slim's photo a day May. Unusual.

Better late than never! My knight in shining armour

Today has been the most wonderful but hectic day, celebrating big boy's 3rd Birthday! We are having a big party on Sunday in the local village hall and I still have loads of things on my to do list. All of them times 29! What were we thinking inviting so many?! Ha! Seriously, nothing gives me greater pleasure than this.

I had two knights in shining armour today. One was a three year old pretending to be Mike the Knight, whom I'd promised a castle picnic to and one was the gentleman working at Banwell Castle this lunchtime.

Off we went armed with a picnic and castle inspired fancy dress hats (photos to follow!) Only to realise when we pulled up to the beautiful historical castle, that it was a private residence that opens for tea and coffee and light snacks as well as a wedding venue.

The poor chap took pity on us and allowed us, and only us, as he stressed, to take our picnic onto their magnificent back garden, with the Castle as our back drop.

We of course ordered drinks and ice creams but felt so honoured and privileged that he had let us indulge a three year old's fantasy!

So here is one photo from today! Not the most creative but my favourite.

My birthday boy in front of the oldest Castle he has ever been to!

New to big boy

I looked up today's Fat Mum Slim photo a day May challenge, at the exact same moment that I had got out all of the presents we have bought for big boy. It is his 3rd birthday tomorrow and for months I have been hoarding presents from car boot sales, nearly new sales and charity shops! As well as a couple of new things!

I have got him a whole host of fantastic things, and they add up to the princely sum of £38! (plus the wooden shop that is his main present! Which I bought fromNetMums)

They will all be new to him, are in incredible condition and will be loved for many years to come!
