My good luck pin
granny.jpg

I was named after my Grandpa's mother who sadly I never met. When I got married my Granny gave me a delicate gold pin, set with tiny pearls. It belonged to my Great Grandmother and had her initial and mine!

I tucked and pinned it into my wedding dress, just under my right arm.

It was my something old and at the time something borrowed.

My Granny had some beautiful jewellery that was passed onto the next generation when she died, as I hope I will be able to do with my special rings. She wrote a list once on the back of an old cereal box of who was to have what and I was lucky enough to be given one of her special cocktail rings.

But this pin is my most treasured piece of my Grandparent's jewellery collection. By no means the most expensive but by far the most precious to me.

I gave it to my brother to wear in his jacket pocket at his wedding as he too had a special relationship with my Grandparents and it felt like we had a little piece of them with his for his big day.

Do you have jewellery that you envisage you will pass to your daughter or granddaughter?

Instant Number Hunt

Big boy has all of a sudden started impressing us with his interest and ability to recognise numbers. He wants to stop at people's doors and points out speed limit signs where ever we go. He loves to copy me so the other afternoon we went on a number hunt around the estate, armed with an instant camera.

As I am usually taking the pictures, he was as keen as mustard to shoot the 'big numbers' we found on our walk.

We went through 1 - 9 which took longer than you would think as the estate is full of lots of little cul de sacs rather than long streets! Then we went on a hunt for the big ones 10, 20, 30, 40 etc right up to 100.

The game lasted just over an hour when he told me that his legs were aching! We had walked a fair way so we headed back for tea.

We are going to go out again for 11-19 another time and save 21-29 and 31-39 etc for other days when we need an hour out of the house.

I have printed the first 1-9 as business cards and laminated them to use as flashcards. Much more fun for him as they remind him of our little adventure. The big ones are on business card sized instant prints so perfect!

The only disappointment was number 100. The only house on the estate not to have a number plaque! We took a picture anyway as he now says "Look Mama that house has no number but it is as old as Great Grandma Mabel!" Well she is 98 and a half but I am happy for him to think she is 100! How sweet!

Magpie on Safari

Just before Christmas we are throwing a bon voyage party for a family member who is off to Africa! I want to set up a photo booth, safari style, so we can have fun messing around and dressing up and hopefully get some ace pictures of the whole family.

I have been on the look out for anything I can use and you wouldn't believe how much old camouflage nets go for on eBay!

Today I couldn't believe my luck!

The half price rail in the Weston Hospice charity shop!

6 safari hats, one binocular case, two scarves and 7 shirts later I have the basics of the booth! All for £13!

My Mum was thrilled when I phoned her and reminded me, that her husband has a set of binoculars in the garage and we have an old set of my Grandpa's down at the beach hut in Southbourne!

I just need to find a bargain net and we are almost sorted! My Granny's suitcases will make great props too and the bamboo in the garden will make great jungle foliage!

Following my Pinterest board for the Safari send off here!

If you have any other explorer/safari/jungle props ideas let me know! Small boy has a giant stuffed giraffe and elephant but I would be grateful for any suggestions!
