Wonderful Wedding Wednesday • The Wedding Fairy

Well what a treat I have for you today for #WonderfulWeddingWednesday to support The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation.

Last week I introduced you to  Kirsten aka The Little Wedding Helper and this week I have the sensational George Watts, known in the industry as The Wedding Fairy

I couldn't imagine anyone more perfect to be the UK's fairy godfather to all the brides and grooms to be!

George Watts.jpg

If you ever have the pleasure to meet George, you will leave feeling like you have made a best friend. I can personally vouch that a night out with him is absolutely as raucous an outrageous as you would expect it to be!

Have a peek at his show reel in his words "As camp as christmas!"

Here's my five minutes with the fairy! Enjoy ;)

"I think I naturally just gravitated to the 'Wedding World' as I have always loved all the individual elements of a wedding... the cake, the flowers oh and of course the dress! If I remember correctly, the The Wedding Fairy title derived from a bridal consultation a few years back over a skinny latte!

The best thing about working in the wedding industry is all the incredibly talented people I get to work with on a daily basis. Every time you think you have seen it all, someone comes along and takes your breath away with a fresh twist on a wedding tradition. I am naturally very inquisitive (aka nosey) and so my biggest joy is stepping into a couples life and delving around a bit to really personalise the day and make it their own. I have done lots of this over the past few weeks on my book tour!

Oh wow the list of crazy things I have worked on is endless! I have transformed into a burlesque dancer, butler in the buff, rally car driver, hairdresser and even zorbed down a hill all in the name of weddings! Organising a proposal up in a hot air balloon was also pretty incredible and a real honour to witness such a magical moment. Everyone should balloon once, it is utterly breathtaking."

So who wants to see George as a burlesque dancer?!

The Wedding Fairy says his proudest moment was signing his first book! And so it should be George! The Wedding Fairy has taken the wedding world by storm! George has a number of books to help couples plan their special days including the Number 1 Best Seller on the Amazon Wedding 100 Book Chart! What an achievement! The 1.5 million plus hits on You Tube aren't half bad either!

George regularly contributes to all the major UK wedding magazines and is a resident expert on TV shows including The Wright Stuff on FIVE, E4’s 50 Greatest Wedding Shockers, The Good Food Channel, TLC America for The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton - reaching over 22 million viewers, The Alan Titchmarsh Show for ITV1 and a mix of programmes for Sky's Wedding TV.

More recently George has been guest writing for Pippa Middleton’s The Party Times, The Daily Mail and talking DIY Weddings alongside leading fashion bible littleblackdress.co.uk.

He is also has a fabulous column in BritishMODE where this month he talks about the latest wedding trends and flower farms. I must be so on trend with my blog post from The Somerset Flower Farm

George also created and founded National Wedding Day where happy couple unite and rejoice in their special days! Once a year couples from all over the world will celebrate their wedding days all over again and help support their chosen charity. I for one will be joining in next August to support The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation

Naomi, who founded this incredible charity to help terminally ill people realise their dream of getting married, is a fairy godmother to all the couples they support.

So pick up your wand and cast your own magic spell by donating just £1 to The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation.

George has so kindly offered to donate a session with one of the Foundation's happy couples to help them plan their special day and cast his magic too!

You can find George on Facebook and Twitter too. His latest book, The Wedding Fairy's Big Day Breakdown is available to buy here.

Honfleur Autumn Salad

Our holiday to Honfleur was bursting with blog inspiration! From the architecture, to the beautiful boutique bed and breakfast where we stayed, to the food. Oh, the food!

One of the most delicious things we ate was a salad (yes I know a salad!!!) at the Bistro des Artistes. But this was a salad with a difference. One woman doing it all, and one dog saying hello every time she ran upstairs, who then got shooed in French back to his bed!

We couldn't have loved it more.

It was described as salmon blinis but what came out was the most thick and bouncy pancakes with ripped smoked salmon scattered around a bed of salad leaves.

So today is a very belated shrove tuesday on the blog! Only joking, here is my version of the Summer salad ready for Autumn days. A simple lunch that is filling and only a little bit naughty, depending on how many pancakes you rip up!

Ingredients:

For the pancakes (Makes 6):

  • 220g/8oz plain flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 pint milk
  • Olive oil

For the salad:

  • I used a mixed living salad and snipped off the top leaves
  • Sliced radish
  • Smoked salmon - ripped into thin pieces
  • Lemon
  • Lime
  • Salt and Pepper

Sieve your flour into a bowl from a height and make a well in the centre. Crack your eggs into the well and whisk. Add your milk and whisk until smooth. Leave for 20 minutes or so.

Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a frying pan and add a ladle of pancake mix. As the mix begins to set and your pancake forms, add a little more mix to add height to your pancake.

Turn after approximately 5 minutes until golden.

Leave to cool until you can touch them and rip at random.

Layer your plate with salad leaves, salmon, pancakes, sliced radishes and squeeze a little lemon and lime juice over the top. Season with salt and pepper and enjoy!

I served mine with a little chilli mayonnaise on the side.

Sunday Prop Shop Part 2

Welcome back to #SundayPropShop photography lovers!

This week I have been up to my neck in vintage kitchenalia. You name it Honeybuns had it! The whole bakery was bursting with authentic props which made my job of helping style the photos, even easier.

Props, subtle or in abundance, can change the atmosphere of a photo and tell a story that makes you want to look at it again and again.

The art of story telling through props is something I believe you develop over time, taking inspiration from everywhere you go, to create a magnificent scene. Your scene doesn't always have to be bursting with 20 different elements to feast your eyes on, sometimes, stripped back styling can be just as effective.

I am completely inspired by Kirsten Butler - The Little Wedding Helper. I gave you a hint of her home earlier this week and I wanted to share a glimpse into the house that has become filled with wonderful antiques, vintage props and modern pieces. Kirsten has the ability to mix periods, create atmosphere and every wedding styling she creates, has a different feel to reflect the different personalities of the bride and groom.

Over a cup of tea and a Freddo bar (It was all I had in the cupboards!) I was fascinated about how during an initial consultation, Kirsten can visualise the types of props she would use to tell their unique story.

Kirsten uses everything from large pieces of furniture to a tiny antique ring box she picked up on one of her travels.

The shed in the garden is jam packed full of china and crockery, summer wedding pieces and wintry wonders. There's even a gate she picked up that was left in a skip!

Almost every inch of surface has a collection of vases, cups, saucers and other little treasures including linens and mirrors and she explained how every now and again she needs a good sort out!

Kirsten works with brides and grooms as well as styling wedding exhibition stands, hotels and magazine photo shoots, amongst lots of other styling work. I feel very lucky to have been given an insight into her collection and can't wait to see the next wedding and all it's little details.

You can have a peek at some of Kirsten's weddings and events here

No wonder she won Best Special Touch award at the National Wedding Industry Awards 2013!

What have you been styling this week? I'd love to see how you've used some props to add interest to your photos. Link up your photos, new posts or old posts. Next time I will be taking you behind the scenes of my little and not so little photo shoots at home and on location!

Whether you blog about weddings, food or family or anything else for that matter - I want to see your styling!

You can have a look at the great ideas linked up last time here.
