Pedlars - The day I went to Wales

I am going to do my very best to squeeze an extraordinary amount of photos into this post, because quite simply you need to see them all!

I was completely honoured to be invited by the team at Pedlars to visit their Central office and tour their warehouse, Charlie's studio, the farm on the estate and Farm Shop. I was giddy when I saw it was an overnight stay at no less than the only Prime Ministerial Library in the country, which the late Prime Minister (and Charlie's great great grandfather) Gladstone, lovingly founded with his own personal collection of over 20,000 books (with handwritten notes in the margins) and tried to contain my hysteria when we arrived for lunch to find who I was sharing the trip with.

The editor of Domestic Sluttery and her friend, the founder of Pretty Nostalgic, the well respected My Interior Stylist from London, the Entertainment Editor from Wallpaper Magazine and me. Me?! I felt like I was in blogging and journalistic royalty. And then, within seconds of sitting down for lunch, I realised that we all shared a common interest. A passion for vintage, alternative and creative ideas and instantly I was, too, a valued part of the group.

There were too many moments that I wanted to take a photograph of. Picking fruit straight from the trees and watching a bevy of pheasants fly by, brainstorming in Charlie's rustic barn studio complete with neon painted steps to what would have been a hay loft, and sat chatting, (almost without pausing for breath), with Nicole before we all met for dinner about a magazine I adore. To the founder!

It was a delight touring the beautifully and eclectically decorated Glynne Arms in the village, goldfish bowl glass of wine in hand, that is part of the Pedlars empire. A pub that is more like an interiors photo shoot set but with an atmosphere that makes you want to tease out your drink or dinner until closing time. The food was tremendous.

I even had to take a photo of my packed lunch we were all given for our train journey's home from the farm shop!

The best thing about the different facets of the business and the buildings they encompass is that the styling is all the team's own work. Their passion, their style. And the genuine and authentic purpose and love of each carefully selected and placed piece, shines through.

Pedlars is true to their word. They do indeed sell wonderful stuff for your home. And vintage. Bone fide (every piece comes with a guarantee of authenticity), hand picked by Charlie and beautiful packaged, their vintage collections available on line are like viewing the gallery pages of a museum. Charlie takes several buying trips each year across the globe, shipping container loads from America and India. He has little moles and has built relationships with selected suppliers who can source him the most wonderful range of pieces that makes Pedlars a unique shopping destination.

Every Friday morning they launch Pedlars Friday Vintage and on a number of occasions I've tried to click through and buy in the afternoon and someone has beaten me to it! There aren't hundreds of each product. These are genuine vintage items that need to be snapped up. To be saved and admired by their new owner.

I have never felt more inspired in a group of strangers.

And what was lovely, was it was obvious everyone felt the same.

If you are ever in the vicinity of Hawarden you must visit the Farm Shop and the Library. Two totally different experiences. One bustling with shoppers and families stocking up on their fruit and veg and buying speciality foods from local suppliers, perhaps stopping for lunch in the thriving cafe and the other a serene yet commanding venue with an air of understated grandeur and elegance. The Library will take your breath away when you prise open the heavy door. I felt like I wanted to tip toe around whilst running my fingers along the spines of the books but only recently the Library was full for a successful first ever literary festival Gladfest!

And if you haven't clicked through to the Pedlars home page yet, do it now. You won't be disappointed!  This is on my Christmas list if Father Christmas thinks I've been a very good girl this year!

Thank you to Sophie, Charlie and all the team, it was THE MOST fantastic 24 hours!

I came home to three Heath men waiting for me at the train station looking like a packhorse laden with goodies. The icing on the sweetest cake!

Weekend Discoveries

The internet is a never ending story book of places, people and things waiting to be discovered.

It's been a short while since my last weekend discoveries post so here's what I have become besotted with lately.

Weekend-Discoveries.jpg

Top to bottom:

Print your own temporary tattoos. Awesome, especially for mothers of 2 boys! I am super cool right now. I got the idea from this post. Post coming up soon...

Anthropologie aprons. Yes, yes, yes I am sure I could whip up my own for far less money but on the basis I can't sew and these are beyond divine, it's going straight on the Christmas wish list and the sewing machine can stay in it's box.

Walnut wood tray from Scarlett Willow. I am sure I have mentioned this company and this wonderful product before, but I am shouting even louder this time! I LOVE it! Now to conquer the art of macaron making so I have something beautiful to display on it, if I am lucky enough to get one, one day!

Make your day DIY, all day long is a $12 pdf ebook of over 150 pages of ideas. Get inspired.

These sublime tote bags are decorated with delicate photos. I would adore this one for all my baking bits, instead of all the plastic storage boxes.

What could be more exciting (other than print your own tattoos) to my boys than an animal projector torch. Father Christmas needs to read this post. £6.95 and an ideal gift for other little ones you know.

If you are a blogger, are you looking for ways to spruce up your photos? This is the post for you. A great round up from Shrimp Salad Circus of different ways to display your blog photos. Think Pinterest perfect too!

OH MY DAYS! My ultimate shopping experience has just opened in Clevedon. 20 minutes away! Woo hoo! A mix of vintage items and handmade goodies in an artisan emporium 19 Alexandra Road.  I am there, asap and will take lots of lovely photos for you all to see!

Beyond the Camera magazine is almost too pretty not to be in print but this pdf version is ace for all of us to read and admire.

I made some bow tie bunting out of crepe paper for Sammy's birthday in May but duct tape bunting is new to me! Follow to tutorial here to make your own.

A new food blog Plated Stories, I have found this week almost made me raid the piggy bank and sign up for their week long course.... in Tuscany. Almost. Beautiful styling, story telling and creativity, check it out now.

We love playing music around the house and these playlists from The Effortless Chic blog might get you listening to something new and inspiring. I don't know about your house, but we have Gangnam Style on loop. Here is November

And finally, did you know it's been 25 years since the tv wedding of the century, when Scott and Charlene were married in Neighbours?! Crumbs that makes me feel so old!

Happy weekend all. We are having breakfast out today, what a treat!

Linking up with the AR-Blog and their Besotted series.

Beetroot Rosti Brunch Idea

I can't quite get enough of beetroot at the moment. And these little rosti cakes would make a sweet brunch idea, or make a big batch for bite size nibbles to go with your beetroot croutons

beetroot rosti brunch.jpg

Ingredients: (Makes One 15 inch tray bake or would make approx 12 mini rostis)

  • 2 baking potatoes
  • 1 large fresh beetroot
  • Black pepper
  • Zest 1 lemon
  • Zest 1 lime
  • Drizzle olive oil
  • Baking paper
  • Optional - fried egg topping with chopped baked prosciutto and chives.

Pre heat your oven to 180 degrees/Gas Mark 4.

Peel your potatoes and beetroot. Using the large holes side on your grater, grate the potatoes and beetroot into a large bowl. You might want to wear a clean rubber glove to hold the beetroot as the juices do stain!

Place the grated mix into a piece of muslin or an old tea towel and over the sink, squeeze out the excess liquid. Potatoes and beetroot are surprisingly juicy!

Return to the bowl and add pepper and finely grate the zest of 1 lemon and 1 lime. Stir the mix through.

Line your baking tray with a sheet of baking paper and drizzle olive oil over the paper to stop the cakes from sticking.

To form your mini rosti cakes use a circular cookie cutter or shape with your hands. I used a cookie cutter and pressed the mix into the shape with a pestle. Gentle lift your cutter away to ensure the mix holds it shape.

Bake for approximately 20 minutes. Checking occasionally.

I also made a large flatter version. I lined a small baking tin with baking paper and drizzled with olive oil.

I chose to top my little ones with little heart shaped eggs which I cut out from one large fried egg (1 egg per 4 rosti cakes) and baked a slice of prosciutto for 5 minutes to chop up with the chives.

The tray bake is beautiful all by itself!

The tray version would be a great way to get lovely seasonal beetroot into a family dinner!

Are you using any seasonal ingredients? I'd love to hear your recipe ideas.

I am off to Cake International so it's all about baking and sweet things for me today!
