Vintage Gold on Gloucester Road

On Thursday I had a mountain of important errands to make, which included 2 trips up and down the M5 to Bristol. Fortunately, this gave me a chance to grab my camera as I found a vintage wonderland.

After picking up this tin bath for the hallway, earlier in the week from my favourite local vintage boutique, I didn't think I would get much luckier.

Until I whizzed down Gloucester Road on the way to our solicitors. The story of all the errands is far too boring compared to what I stumbled upon, so I'll get straight to the good stuff.

If you follow me on Twitter you may have seen a tweet from the moment I found Reclaimers Reclamation. You couldn't miss it, it was "OH MY GIDDY AUNT". It felt like a magical moment!

I felt like I had found a pot of vintage gold at the bottom of a rainbow! This narrow shop went on and on and on. It was totally worth getting my feet soaked to share some photographs of their incredible stock.

There was a french original swinging crib, prams from the twenties that looked like they should be in BBC Bristol's prop warehouse not gathering dust at the back of this tardis. You name it, they have it. I adored the pharmacy set of drawers and all the more industrial items like the taps.

I could have bought the world, but I fell in love with a rusty old Sparklets soda syphon for a tenner. I am going to clean it up and use it as a bookend!

As I crossed the road back to the car a huge tin bath caught my eye outside the paraphernalia shop Bliss.

Surely it was worth a look, in case it was a complete bargain. After a very short negotiation it was mine for £20! Ok, so at the moment it is going to make a great basket for the photo booth props at Sammy's Birthday Party but after that who knows! Garden planter? Play boat?

My husband was a little take aback by my need for 2 tin baths in one week, but after all the errand favours I had done, was a great sport and took a photo for me!

Have you found any bargains this week?!

My Favourite Magazines

I am genetically programmed to adore magazines. My Mum has bought every (yes every) single edition of Woman and Woman's Own (I can't tell the difference to be honest) for the last 45 years. If she is away, she will ask a friend to buy them for when she gets home.

My sister and I are nosey by nature and love reading about the details of the latest celebrity wedding but over the past year, I have stopped buying the glossy gossip magazines and found the most eclectic collection of independent publications and online editions. Plus I can always borrow them from Natalie if I need a celebrity fix!

I live a busy life and often have my nose in the laptop rather than thumbing real life pages. I read constantly but sometimes sitting down for 10 minutes and absorbing the experience of reading a real magazine, can be so relaxing.

My favourites are more than magazines to me. They are individual little works of art.

Lionheart. Hells bells this is a magazine for everyone who wants to roar. Roar about the unusual, untapped and imaginative. Each issue is almost a beautiful book in itself. Something you can pick up and put down, as you see something different and engaging each time. And its founder and editor, who is based in Bristol, is actually called Hels Bells. Awesome.

Flamingo. You don't have to stand on one leg to read it but you may stand open mouthed. Thought provoking articles and a craft magazine without a pastel shade in sight. Printed in London on paper that feels rough and smooth at the same time, it's a magazine that leaves you wanting more. More stories from the illustrators featured, more research into the cultural projects featured. I read an article and want to go straight online to find out more.

Flow. A wonderful explosion of colour awaits you in this Dutch magazine. One for true paper lovers, each edition is something to treasure. I could re read it over and over again. Inspiring ideas and there is also an app which features Japanese paper crafts. I'm sold.

I could have made this post a hundred times longer but I want you to discover these literary discoveries for yourself and not spoil the magic. Check them out, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

I'll post my favourite online publications later this week. There are some jaw dropping beautiful magazines on line. Do you have any to add to my list?!

Weekend Discoveries

These posts seem to have just happened by accident. All through the week I pin, bookmark, rip pages out of magazines and scribble down little websites and products that I find and it's so nice to share them. You can have a peek at the first and second Weekend Discoveries posts if you missed them.

Hopefully you are enjoying my little discoveries.

First up this week is a kitchen related item that I swiftly sent a link to my brother and politely asked him to purchase them for me. It is actually awesome having a US postal address in the family!

How cute is this sweet Japanese dinnerware? I am experimenting with my blog photography that involves food and am starting to collect some curious pieces which make for great photo props.

I am not a baker. Never got my hands covered in flour. Not even once. But this typography cake makes me want to reach for the shiny mixing bowl that is still waiting to be christened.

If you are a regular reader you will know I have grown a tad obsessed with paper flowers lately but these giant ones make me want to reach for my credit card, instead of my scrap book paper. Too beautiful to bother trying to make yourself!

I have really long locks at the moment. I keep thinking it desperately needs a trim but I am quite enjoying feeling a little like a brunette Rapunzel, maybe next month. These elastic hairbands are on my birthday wish list!

I love bunting. In any form! I had a go at some tassel bunting this week but tried out another idea that I will share next week. Shortly after I'd finished mine I found this company and their awesome party balloons. How good would I need to be all year to get one for my birthday in August?!

I have absolutely no idea what I am going to use these for yet but I saw them and knew I needed them in my stationery drawer. Again Patrick and Carlotta to the rescue! Well and the magic of Paypal! I think they would make great birthday or Christmas present tags!

And finally as I say goodbye say hello to Little Printer. I'm not a big gadget girl, whilst I couldn't live without my MacBook and iPhone, I am not fussed about games consoles, electronic fitness boards and the like. But this is top of my ultimate gadget wish list. Rich may have taken a note for my birthday ;)

Now I know the video is from last year, but it's too cute not to share.

Little Printer lives in your home, bringing you news, puzzles and gossip from your friends.
